Information and Communication Technology is a vital part of all curriculum areas at our school with the majority of lessons being taught with interactive whiteboards.
In line with the National Strategy for ICT Year 7 pupils develop the knowledge and skills learnt in Key Stage 2 using bridging activities based on presentation, research and processing. Pupils are taught the basic ICT skills from Year 7 onwards and develop these skills through into Year 11 and beyond. Pupils are given the opportunity to prepare themselves for participation in a rapidly changing world where activities are increasingly transformed by access to ICT.
In Year 8 more emphasis is placed on leaning skills for more advance software application such as desktop publishing and web page designing. In Year 9 pupils are encouraged to apply their skills to business applications with marketing and finance projects.
In Key Stage 4 pupils have the opportunity to gain ICT qualifications in GNVQ ICT, Business and Communication Systems and Business Studies. Business is an integral subject within the ICT department.
All pupils have a personal User Name and Password to access network computer facilities and have access to the Internet and e-mail for subject research. Pupils are encouraged to use Internet in lessons, under controlled conditions. The school has a detailed Internet policy available on request.
