Mathematics - More Fun Than It Looks!
Mathematics - More Fun Than It Looks!

Mathematics plays a major part in the life of all pupils at the school. By nurturing each child’s talents it is the aim of the Mathematics department to help them accomplish demanding but rewarding tasks with confidence and enjoyment. Our classes and assessments are organised as follows:

Year 7 are taught in mixed ability forms. Assessment of their progress takes place at the end of each topic in the form of short tests (approximately once every four weeks).

In Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 pupils are taught in sets according to their speed of working and ability in the subject. Assessment takes place every few weeks.

It is well established that children have mathematical ‘growth spurts’. To cater for this it is always possible for pupils to change sets in order to provide the challenge they require.

Each mathematics teacher is an enthusiast and our aim is to give all children the confidence and skills to enable them to gain the best possible GCSE at the end of the course. In the last five years GCSE results have always been amongst the very best in the county.
