Key Stage 3

Year 7 Curriculum Summary

• Autumn & Spring: Medieval Realms – includes battle of Hastings, Black Death, Peasants Revolt, Crime and Punishment.
• Summer: Voyages of Discovery – Sir Walter Raleigh and Sir Francis Drake and their voyages around the world under Elizabeth I.

Year 8 Curriculum Summary

• Autumn: The English Civil War, Trial and Execution of Charles1and the following of Oliver Cromwell.
• Spring: The French Revolution.
• Summer: The Industrial Revolution in Britain – Focus on the development of the railways.

Year 9 Curriculum Summary

• Autumn: Hot to Cold War: How the treaties of World War 1 led to the rise of Hitler and outbreak of World War II.
• Spring: Black Peoples of America – from Slavery to Civil Rights.
• Summer: Terrorism – focus on Ireland and IRA, but also covers terrorism in under world up to present day.

Years 10 and 11 Curriculum Summary

• Year 10: German Depth Study 1918 – 1945.
• Year 10: Coursework – World War I, focus on Battle of the Somme.
• Year 10: British Depth Study 1900 – 1918, Liberal Reforms, Fight for Women’s suffrage, the Home Front during World War I.
• Year 11: International Relations 1945 – 1990, The Cold War.

Friday Lunchtime History Club

• Yearly Year 7 trip to Castles of Wales – Caernartan, Harlech and Conwy.
• Yearly Year 8 trip to working steam railway.
• Yearly Year 9 trip to Holocauist Memorial Day.
• Yearly Year 10/11 trip to London to Imperial War Museum.
• Mock Trials in Shrewsbury – yearly event.
• Shropshire Star Historical articles competitions.
