RE is a popular and growing area of the Humanities department at The Marches.

Our courses have been developed in the past months to reflect the changes in our community. The courses we offer aim to develop the students understanding of our diverse culture whilst developing a sense of personal identity.

We study units thematically, developing knowledge about religions by investigating moral and philosophical themes such as the concept of Justice or Belonging in our world or by investigating moral issues that affect us all.

Many of our units of work include some extended project work, using a diversity of learning styles and techniques to develop understanding. Some projects for example are art based, exploring difficult concepts through the use of imagery, colour and texture.

We study five of the key world religions:

  • Christianity
  • Hinduism
  • Buddhism
  • Sikhism
  • Islam

At Key Stage 4 we focus on Christianity and Islam only.

Throughout Key Stage 3 we offer a number of distinct units, we realise that in our own community there are students and families from a range of faith backgrounds and experience and try to accommodate these as far as we can.

Our units of study are:

Year 7:

  • The Marches World Tour - a study of faiths and special places around the world
  • Amazing buildings and special places
  • Where did it begin?
  • Why is it hard to believe in something?
