Year 11 student from The Marches School was invited to mark Shropshire motor dealer’s centenary year last week at their Oswestry showroom, attended by over 50 members of staff and associates.
16 year old Thomas Simmonds who has been combining his studies with real life work experience with the family-owned motor group Furrows, as part of The Marches Apprenticeship Programme, was overjoyed to be invited to cut the cake in honour of their 100 year anniversary.
Thomas was asked to cut the cake alongside Business Owner, Jane Coward and General Manager, Richard Pettener at the celebration event. Jane Coward commented, “As we reflect upon our past successes we also look forward to the future and welcome one of our newest recruits Thomas Simmonds into the Furrows family.”
Thomas, who has attending Furrows’ service department for over 12 months, has fully embraced the opportunity provided by the esteemed car retailer and is developing a range of skills acquired whilst learning from the experienced and knowledgeable technicians on site.
Thomas is keen to embark upon a career with Furrows who are renowned for upholding the strong traditions of excellent customer service and high-quality vehicles, following the successful completion of his GCSEs this summer.
Mrs Meg Murphy, Careers and Inspiration Officer at the Marches School said, “The apprenticeship programme is designed to provide students with valuable work experience and an opportunity to identify and pursue a possible career path. We would like to thank Furrows for providing this opportunity, it is only with the support of local businesses that we are able to run the Marches Apprenticeship. We are delighted that Thomas has engaged in the programme and has immersed himself in the role. We wish him every success in his chosen career path.”
