Careers Day at the Marches School
The Marches School hosted a Year 10 Careers Day on Friday 29th June which gave students a hugely beneficial insight into some truly magnificent careers.
Eight workshops from several different sectors was in attendance, including football education, digital careers, engineering, law, motor vehicle, apprenticeships and animal care.
Not only that, but students had speed networking opportunities with professionals including: a BBC Radio Shropshire presenter, a Magazine Editor, Environmental Project Officer, Trainee Manager, Assistant Principal, Farm Manager, Zoo Manager, Marketing Manager, Leisure Centre Manager and professionals in HR, engineering and accounting..
Barry Richards, a Mechanical Engineer from Electro Impact, was the speaker.
The Marches School has a firm focus on careers and events like this support the students in the careers that they wish to pursue from an early age. The ability to talk and listen to professionals in those careers can only be beneficial to the students and their choices.
The professionals attended from a whole host of companies, including: MSPN, Ministry of Justice, North Shropshire College, Shrewsbury Town FC, GHP Solicitors, My Shrewsbury magazine, BBC Radio Shropshire, Field Studies Council, Arvensis Ecology, Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Aico, BAE Systems, DRE & Co Accountants and Serco.
Meg Murphy, Careers Advisor at the Marches School, commented: “We are delighted to be able to provide insight into a range of job roles and industries by allowing Year 10 students to think in detail about their long term careers. The opportunity to allow the students to speak to professionals about their work first hand is an excellent opportunity. We would like to pass on our gratitude to the professionals who were willing to give up a day to support our event”.
