Marches School Pupils Represent Shropshire
Four Marches School pupils were selected to represent Shropshire at the West Midlands Regional Sportshall Championships, held on Sunday at Solihull.
Pupils faced strong opposition competing against athletes from larger counties including, Birmingham, Warwickshire and Hereford, and Worcester.
Massimo Wyatt (Year 7) and Tom Hotchkiss (Year 8), also members of Oswestry Olympians, enjoyed being selected for the county for the third year running. Tom confirmed the progress he has made this year qualifying for the final of the 4 lap race. He completed a successful day by adding almost 30cm to his personal best in the standing triple jump, with a leap of 6.30 metres.
Lucy McGlinchey was selected for the U15 girls’ shot after winning every winter Sportshall shot put event, when competing for Oswestry Olympians.
Luke Steel of Year 8 made it a family double with his selection for the U13 boys’ team, just a few weeks after his sister Jess celebrated selection for the U11 girls’ team.
Neal Martin, Head of PE at the Marches School, commented, “We are very proud and supportive of our pupils and being selected to represent Shropshire is a huge achievement. They have shown excellent dedication and commitment to the sport of athletics, we wish them all the very best at the competition and we look forward to supporting them through the outdoor season too”.
