Match Report: Year 11, Shropshire Cup Quarter Final Year

The Marches School 8  – 1 Ercall Wood Academy

After the last few games being tense it was a welcome relief for The Marches boys to enjoy a comfortable victory and safe passage through to the Shropshire Cup semi-final.

It was not all plain sailing though, the Ercall Wood boys started the better of the two sides and forced the opening goal from a corner. The Marches boys’ character has been proven throughout the season and the team came roaring back before half time. As we got to grips with the slightly difficult, muddy conditions the goals began to flow, by half-time the boys had a comfortable lead. The goals were shared around, Charlie, Billy, Max all on the score sheet.

The subs were challenged with making an impact after half-time and wow, how Sam Rogers stepped up, taking over from Drew Brennan as super-sub! Firstly a well struck penalty that he won himself, followed up by a blistering strike in off the post which sent the crowd into raptures – special mention to Louis Mansell, who has supported us in all weathers, somewhat of a lucky charm for the team.

There was even time for centre back Kian Thomas to get in on the act with an incredibly lucky goal. Scuffing a shot off his shin pad towards the goal, taking at least 3 deflections before the keeper somehow managed to dive over it.

Sterner tests to come for the boys as we await Shrewsbury School or Idsall School in the semi-final. Well played lads.
