Hargreaves House

Hargreaves House is named after Alison Hargreaves, who in May 1995 became the first British woman to climb Everest alone and without supplementary oxygen – only the second person ever to achieve this. Alison was trying to climb the three highest mountains in the world, unaided and without supplementary oxygen, in a single season. She succeeded in climbing two of them, but was unfortunately killed in a blizzard while descending from her successful summit of K2.

Alison showed great determination to achieve what she did, pushing herself to achieve more at every opportunity. These qualities of determination, never giving up and pushing yourself forward to achieve your best are qualities that we are trying to emulate in Hargreaves House. We will support and respect those willing to put themselves forward for us.

Although Alison is famed for climbs that she completed on her own, she would not have been able to achieve them without her team behind her – the support of her family, and the people who completed parts of the climbs with her. This is why Hargreaves House motto is so important. We are a TEAM, because Together Everyone Achieves More.

Our House competitions are varied in theme, with plenty of opportunities throughout the year for pupils to contribute in a way that allows them to demonstrate their skills and talents, as well as having fun and the opportunity to take part in something a little bit different. We will need determination and resilience, as well as everybody being willing to contribute in order to be successful this year, and we hope that all the students and staff of Hargreaves get to have a little fun along the way.

Come on Hargreaves – We Can Do It!
