Youngest Ever Mayoress Attends The Marches School

Amber Hunt, a Year 10 student at the Marches School in Oswestry is the youngest Mayoress in the country after her father was re-elected to his post in May and gave his daughter the opportunity.

15-year-old Amber has been carrying out her Mayoress role alongside father, Vince Hunt, a local town and Shropshire councillor for the past month. So far Amber has visited local colleges, attended community fairs and had a presence at civic services.

On Tuesday 13th June, Amber was invited to talk about her position on the BBC Radio Shropshire Breakfast Show. Having been handed the opportunity alongside her GCSEs, Amber said she has been “meeting and having conversations with new people” to support her father, the Mayor. She went on to say that, “she is extremely honoured to be given the role”, and that, “it is going to be a busy year but I am looking forward to representing Oswestry as Mayoress.”

Executive Headteacher of The Marches School, Sarah Longville, commented, “We are immensely proud in The Marches School of Amber’s confidence to take up such an important role in the community. The impact on young people is inspirational as it will clearly show their voice counts in Oswestry.”
