£600 raised from Annual Sponsored Walk
Every year, on the last Monday of term, The Marches School staff and students take part in the Annual Sponsored Walk. It is a day where everyone hangs up their books, bags and pencil cases and spend the day walking a 6.5 mile picturesque route enjoying views over Oswestry town and surrounding countryside.
Although this year we could not walk together as a school, on Monday 13th July staff and students stepped away from their laptops, took a break from their timetabled lessons and went on a walk. The walk was a great opportunity to get outside, get active and support our chosen local charity for this year – The Movement Centre at the Orthopaedic Hospital.
The sponsored walk was enjoyed by all and as a school we raised £600 for The Movement Centre, thank you to everyone who donated. See below some of the pictures taken by staff, students and the wider school community on their sponsored walk adventures.
Mrs Sian Grassby commented; “The sponsored walk has always been one of the highlights of the school year allowing students and staff to enjoy each other’s company in a different setting whilst also getting active. It was fantastic that we still took part in our annual event and it gave staff and students the time away from their laptops and to get out to see what their surrounding countryside has to offer. I was delighted to see all the photos of how staff and students spent their day off timetable and where they went on their sponsored walk. It was lovely to see so many families getting involved and we thank everyone who generously donated towards the fantastic cause.”
House Sponsored Walk Quiz
In the run-up to the annual sponsored walk we also ran a countryside quiz house competition for staff and students. This was the first event to kick start the house competition for the new academic year and we had an overwhelming amount of entries. The results were:
Joint 1st Bonington, Hargreaves, Stephens and Whittaker
Joint 1st Hargreaves, Mallory, Stephens, Whittaker
