Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Last weekend saw 65 of our Year 9 students take part in an 8km introductory walk around the local area, as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. The group were fortunate that the rain held off, but the ground was still very wet and there were some very big puddles! Despite this, everyone made the most of being out in the open. The students practised their map reading skills in their groups, which was good preparation for the Bronze expedition they will take part in next year. Miss Redfern commented: “It was a pleasure to spend the day with these students; they were a real credit to themselves. One of the quotes from a student was ‘I have used all my LORIC skills today, especially resilience’ which is fantastic to hear!”
