Futures Week | Peace
This week Year 9 and 10 students participated in ‘Futures Week’, which saw the groups work with Dr Phill Gittins from Generations for Change on developing a culture of peace. The students investigated theses on youth exclusion, tolerance and County Lines and how these impact on our local community.
The High Sheriff of Shropshire, Mrs Dean Harris also presented to the year groups, talking about key issues in Oswestry and Shropshire. Following this, the students worked on developing concept maps and an outline for the first steps of a Peace Project. Some students will go on to develop a project with Dr Gittins that, with the support of local mentors, will lead to a local community project being launched!
Check out some of the below photos taken from the week, along with student feedback!
Year 9 student, Chloe Downes commented; “I’ve enjoyed today because we’ve learnt about lots of different topics, such as County Lines, intolerance and youth exclusion. My favourite bit has been creating the concept maps that allow us to express our ideas, opinions and solutions to these problems. It’s been nice to be able to give our own solutions to some of the problems that affect us“.
