Lots planned for our upcoming Climate Futures Week

On 1-5 November 2021 The Marches School will be holding a Climate Futures Week, to coincide with the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.

The week is intended to inspire students to become future leaders and be part of the solutions for tackling climate change. We have lots of activities planned, which include:

  • Assemblies and form-time activities about climate change.
  • Climate themed lessons across a range of subjects (from Art, to Maths and Geography).
  • A Climate Solutions Fair – Wednesday will see national and local organisations invited into school to showcase their solutions for climate change and engage students with hands-on experiences. The different stalls will also demonstrate how, in their future careers, students can tackle climate change.  Some of our attendees include: Oswestry Town Council, Zero Carbon Shropshire, the Environment Agency, Aico, and Treflach Farm. Alongside there will be live cooking demonstrations from OsNosh, animals, an electric car and even 3D models of flooding and a sustainable house.
  • Friday will bring a mock climate change conference – ‘The Marches Climate Summit’. This will see a selection of students from across different year groups, represent different countries from around the world; debate, and agree priorities for action. The event will start with a live link to the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.
  • Finally we will be creating a tree of students’ personal pledges for action on climate change.

We are looking forward to an inspiring week!
