Match Report: County Cup Rugby
Year 8 County Cup vs Lacon Childe School
The Year 8 boys faced a long journey to their recent County Cup pool fixture against Lacon Childe School. Missing usual fly half Josh Burnett to the Dentist, the rest of the team were at full strength and Captain Harry Heard stepped up to fill Josh’s shoes.
The Year 8 boys got off to their usual slow, and a bit too polite start conceding an early try and a lot of turnovers. Then up stepped Tyler Casewell like a phoenix from the ashes. He raced the entire length of the pitch, brushing aside defenders before touching down in the corner, and then quickly making his way to the side-line to ask to be subbed. What Tyler lacked in cardiovascular fitness he made up for in speed and strength, sparking another attack which saw Ben Fletcher power over the line. Next it was Sean Jones’ turn to spark life into the attack as he waltzed down the pitch before finding a lovely offload to Ted Morris who had the speed to finish. Things were looking up. Unfortunately, the half finished with some silly play on our own line which Lacon pounced upon to make it 3 scores to 2 at the break.
The second half was a lot more even. End to end Rugby from both teams saw them trading blows for
the full 25 minutes. Another score for Tyler Casewell, Ben Fletcher and Sean Jones was unfortunately not enough to seal it, as Lacon Childe ran out winners 7 tries to 6. A very close game played in great spirit from both teams. The Marches left with a long bus journey home to lick their wounds and be ready for their last pool game of the Cup.
Special mention must go to Rhys James who made his Marches debut and played his first ever
Rugby game. He made some brilliant tackles and threw himself into everything, well done!
