Match Report: County Cup Rugby
Year 11 County Cup Rugby vs Meole Brace School
The quarter final was a step too far for the Year 11 boys this year, but they did put on a solid performance! The first half was not one for the spectators as it was mainly played in the middle of the pitch with neither side making a line break. With the last play of the half, The Marches finally got some field position and with some slick handling from Joe Hodgson, Matt Campbell managed to slip over the line out wide. This resulted in 5 – 0 to The Marches at the break.
Unfortunately, the second half was a different story. Meole Brace School capitalised on an early error straight from the whistle and scored a quick tap penalty that caught The Marches napping. The visitors used the wind well and pinned The Marches back in their own half, Tom Webster covered the ground well, but the team struggled to recover. Relentless pressure finally gave way to a run of Meole Brace tries late on in the second half and the game was over.
A comment must go to Simon Muzychenka’s defiant runs up the middle of the pitch. A gutsy performance just missing a little bit of creativity on the day.
