Match Report: U13 Netball Team Crowned County Champions

The Marches came through a tight final against Idsall School to win a very competitive Netball Tournament at Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby School in Telford.

Goals from Seren Lingard (Goal Shooter) and Felicity Davies (Goal Attack) helped The Marches defeat Idsall School 9-6 to win the deciding game of the competition. This continues to what has been a brilliant netball season for the team.

Mrs Bladen’s U13 girls started off brightly when Jenna Outram (Centre) created a brilliant pass over the top of the goalkeeper – which was assisted by Polly-Ann (Wing Attack), to Marches top scorer Lingard, who scored into the net with ease.

Idsall School fought back with a goal of their own to get back into the match. The goals went back and two with both sides struggling to get any sort of interceptions in a well contested fixture.

When the match reached 3-3, The Marches found their rhythm, scoring two goals on the trot to get the score up to 5-3. This was a result of The Marches defence players managing to get a crucial interception, forcing the ball up to the attackers, converting the play to gain a two goal cushion. This was sharp play by Felicity Clark (Goal Keeper), Madi Skarratt (Goal Defence) and Samantha Owen (Wing Defence).

Just when it looked like The Marches Team were starting to pull away, Idsall School gained a couple of goals. This was through slicing open The Marches back line to keep the final on a knife-edge.

At 6-6 in the final, The Marches scored three goals on the bounce. Idsalls’s defence played a part in these goals due to the goalkeeper and goal defence giving away silly obstructions, allowing The Reds to see the game out nicely and claim the win 9-6.

The Marches ended the day victors in what is something that for a while will be in the memories of a brilliantly well worked team. A shout out to, two players who played a big part in helping the team move through the tournament: Tilly Whitelam (Centre/Wing Attack) and Ella Aldridge (Wing Defence/Goal Defence).
