North Shropshire Netball Tournament
On Wednesday 18th September, the U16 team competed in the North Shropshire Netball Tournament at Ellesmere College. Freya Weetman captained the team along with Emma Adams, Ella Poole, Evie Lloyd Butler, Amy Coulson, Millie Allan, Holly Faulks and Freya Hood. The Marches played against three schools in the first round and were convincing winners over Thomas Adams School, The Priory School and The Corbet School. They progressed onto the semi-finals, beating The Corbet’s second team 10 goals to 3. The Marches faced Ellesmere College in the final. After 10 minutes of play, the game was tied at 5-5 meaning 2 minutes of added time would decide who would be crowned champions. The team demonstrated their cool under pressure and won the final by 1 goal. The Marches School demonstrated outstanding skill and perseverance in each game with excellent shooting from Emma and Ella. This was the 5th consecutive year the girls have won the North Shropshire Netball Tournament which is an incredible achievement.
The Marches Sixth Form Netball team also competed in the North Shropshire Tournament at Ellesmere College. Their first match was against Oswestry School, a recurrent rival. It was a very close match, but the girls pulled through winning 7-6, with Rosie White scoring the winning goal in the last 5 seconds. Next, they played the host, Ellesmere College. They were an extremely strong, fast team and The Marches played well against them, however despite our best efforts, we were defeated. Our last match was against Thomas Adams School, and following the previous matches, the team were playing their best and won 23-3. Overall, the team came 2nd, and we are very proud of the performance, considering the little time the students have been training together. The girls are excited to train together more as a team and for future fixtures.
