Taste of University Life for Year 9
Around 150 Year 9 students from the Marches School in Oswestry embarked on a trip to the University of Chester recently. The trip to the university was designed to ignite the aspirations of Year 9 students and provide them with an insight into Higher Education and the opportunities that will be available to them in the future.
Students spent the day at the Chester University Parkgate Road Campus and attended a range of activities and presentations organised by Isabel Leah from the Outreach Team. Activities included ‘Dream University’, ‘Career Detectives’, an interactive game and a tour around the university campus.
On the tour, the Year 9 students enjoyed a full tour of the campus and facilities by the student ambassadors and found out, first hand, what life as a university student is like.
Meg Murphy, Careers Advisor at the Marches School, commented, “It was a fantastic day and we must thank the University of Chester for their help in organising the day and hosting us. The Year 9 students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it has opened their eyes at the thought of attending university in the future”.
Isabel Leah, Widening Participation Officer at the University of Chester, added: “We would like to thank the Year 9 students for attending the day and it was wonderful to host such an attentive group of students. It was an enjoyable day and we look forward to welcoming more students from the school in future”.
