Year 8 Boys’ Rugby
On Wednesday, the Year 8 Boys’ Rugby team travelled to Sir John Talbot’s School for the North Shropshire ten-a-side Rugby Tournament. After a successful year last year, the team were optimistic with an exciting new splash of talent to go with the experience stalwarts of the team.
Unfortunately the boys were caught a bit cold in the opening game (which turned out to be the decider), going two tries down against Oswestry School in the opening exchanges. They fought back well and had two tries held up over the try line before finally scoring through a classic Charlie White-Jones mazey run. The Marches boys rallied and had good pressure on the Oswestry line before an unfortunate knock-on, which was capitalised on by a fantastic length of the pitch try by Oswestry to seal the game.
After this disappointing start, the team regrouped and were fantastic the rest of the day. They beat all of the other six teams convincingly, playing some excellent Rugby, including a seven try victory over The Priory, to the disappointment of a familiar face. Stars of the day were Sean Jones and debutant Tyler Casewell, who must have been the top scorer of the competition by a country mile.
Second place confirmed – so close, yet so far. ~ Mr Dickinson
