ππ‘ Revision Technique #8: Self-Quizzing π‘π
Want to test how well you really know a topic? Self-Quizzing is a powerful and active way to reinforce your learning and build confidence for your exams!
Hereβs how to do it:
1οΈβ£ Create Your Own Questions: After revising a topic, write down a list of questions based on the key points.
2οΈβ£ Test Yourself: Try to answer the questions without looking at your notes or textbooks.
3οΈβ£ Check Your Answers: After quizzing yourself, compare your answers with your notes and identify areas that need more work.
Why it works:
πΈ Actively recalling information helps strengthen your memory.
πΈ Shows you exactly what you know and what needs more attention.
πΈ Improves exam technique and helps you feel more prepared.
π‘ Pro Tip: Use online quiz tools or flashcard apps to make self-quizzing even easier and more interactive!
Give self-quizzing a go this week and boost your confidence!

π Student Spotlight π
Meet Sophie Ryan, who studied at Marches Sixth Form between 2019 and 2021 and has gone on to build an inspiring pathway in conservation and environmental science.
Since leaving Sixth Form, Sophie studied BA Animal Welfare and Society at Winchester University, graduating with a First Class Honours degree. She is now completing her MSc in Applied Wildlife Conservation, working alongside ecologists and conservation projects to support realβworld improvements to wildlife protection.
Sophieβs journey has already taken her across the world. She has worked on a marine conservation project in Costa Rica, helping to protect sea turtle species from poaching and habitat destruction, and has supported wildlife rescue centres as an assistant. She is currently waiting to hear about her next project, with hopes of exploring humanβwildlife interactions between predators and people in Greece.
Alongside her studies, Sophie works partβtime as a brand ambassador for Untamed ethical cat food and volunteers in data analysis for rewilding projects in Somerset, combining academic knowledge with practical impact.
Sophieβs story is a brilliant example of how Sixth Form can open doors to meaningful, global opportunities and help students follow their passions with confidence.

This yearβs ski trip was a real success, despite having to make some last minute changes to ensure it could go ahead.
Originally planned for a larger group, the trip was reduced so that our Year 11 students could still take part, giving them their final opportunity to experience this visit.
It was fantastic to see how much progression the students made over the course of the trip. Conditions were excellent and everyone made the most of the experience, showing resilience, determination and a willingness to challenge themselves.
A huge thank you to the staff who gave up their time to support the trip. Without their commitment and care, opportunities like this simply would not be possible. Team Marches π

This International Womenβs Day, we were proud to hear from Niki McGarvey, MATi and Outreach Specialist Advisor, as she shared her reflections on this yearβs theme of giving to gain.
When we give opportunity, encouragement and respect, we gain stronger communities, fairer workplaces and brighter futures. Every time we listen, support and open doors for women and girls, progress follows. Equality is not something we lose by sharing, it is something we all gain.
Today, and every day, we choose action, kindness and collaboration, because when women thrive, everyone thrives.
